As a junior graphic design at Lumico, Ronald creates visual content of a high standard for various clients’ social media campaigns, which requires him to work closely with the content team. He holds a N6 Certificate in Art and Design from the College of Cape Town.
He is a lover of art, autobiographies and music and spends his weekends helping to organize Hip Hop events. Also an avid photographer, he regularly goes on nature hikes with his camera in hand to embrace this passion.
Ronald enjoys occasionally speaking in various accents and has worked in construction and designed printed T-shirts.
Lourens grew up on a farm in Koekenaap, where he lived since a little boy. He started off his school career at the Lutzville High School, but graduated at Augsburg Agricultural Gymnasium in Clanwilliam. After that he studied IT: Systems support and Network support at CTU in Stellenbosch and now works at the Vredendal office of Lumico as a content creator.
Sune was born in Pretoria but moved to the West Coast when she was young and matriculated at Hopefield High School. Before joining the Lumico team in Vredendal where she handles all administration, she worked at the Letstatsi Lodge in Vanrhynsdorp. She wants to study an administration and business management course through UNISA. Sune enjoys going to drag races, spending time with friends, camping and being artistic. ‘’I always believe that where one door closes, another opens. My motto in life is ‘never let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game’.
‘’I’m a very confident and witty person. My character is often described as strong and honest by my inner circle. I am a natural leader and I can always apply common sense and logic on any situation. I don’t stress easy and I don’t have a temper. I’m also a very ingenuitive person, always thinking of the better way to accomplish something or solve a problem.’’ His hobbies include long distance swimming, competitive gaming and reading sci-fi. ‘’My goal in life is to have my name reflect a mayor change in history.’’
Kelvin is Manager of Client Liaison at Lumico’s Vredendal Office. He is responsible for client interaction and also for the operational management in the region. Kelvin grew up on a Karoo farm and earned his three-year NVC Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism in 2011 and immediately embarked upon a career in the client service industry. After working at a call center group in Johannesburg, Kelvin joined Lumico in Vredendal.
His hobbies include the outdoors: camping and hunting. He also does freelance modeling and is a people’s person. His motivations in life are never to forget your roots, and the belief that one’s dreams should be bigger than one’s fears.
Stavios is a Junior web Developer at Lumico and is responsible for creating modern, unique websites for clients. He completed a government-sponsored course in Java programming through Oracle University and is a certified Oracle Junior Associate. He has previous working experience in software.
A curious mind and a passion for tackling problems with a fresh approach has made Stavios an asset to the Development Team. A self-proclaimed tech-enthusiast and extreme sports lover, Stavios enjoys doing parkour (free running). He plans to continue studying Software Development at the University of Cape Town.
Johan was born in Paarl, but moved all across South Africa and eventually graduated at Vredendal High School. He previously worked on a farm in New Mexico in the United States and was a marketer for a media house before joining the Lumico team. He enjoys playing cricket and working out at the gym in his spare time.
His motto in life is, ‘dreams don’t work unless you do.’
Xolisa, better known as Kholo, is a Junior Web Developer at Lumico, focusing mostly on front-end development of websites. His expertise ensures that page visitors are met with appealing web-interfaces. He holds a certificate in Multimedia Technology, which he obtained from Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
Kholo grew up in the Eastern Cape and matriculated at St James Senior Secondary School. He retains his childhood love of soccer and enjoys reading and listening to music. He believes that patience is one of his biggest attributes, and this allows him to put in the hard work and dedication that makes his work stand out.
As a Content Coordinator in our Vredendal office, Helgaard is responsible for the management of content flow, scheduling of different content genres for our agricultural clients.
Helgaard grew up in Vredendal and graduated from Vredendal High School. He is a self-taught computer wizard. In his spare time, Helgaard is an avid online computer gamer.
Linkie is a Content Coordinator at Lumico. She is responsible for creating unique, engaging content on various clients’ social media platforms and webpages.
Born and raised in East London, Linkie started her studies in Language and Communication at the University of the Free State. After being involved with several events on and off campus, she switched to Marketing Management and Business Sciences upon discovering her passion for marketing endeavours and projects. She is currently completing her degree through the University of South Africa.
Linkie effectively caters to client’s needs by integrating both her passion for social engagement and love for the written word into her role at Lumico. She has briefly travelled to Europe and hopes to one day see much more of the world.
Zandile is a coordinator in Lumico’s Public Relations Department. Her roles include overseeing press releases and publicity and engaging with various media outlets. A love for networking and building relationships with clients gives her the competitive edge in carrying out her tasks.
Born in Cape Town and raised in the Eastern Cape, Zandile previously worked in administration and journalism, which has allowed her to gain the experience necessary for her current position. She enjoys spending time with her friends and getting the most out of life.
Sharné is a Content Creator at Lumico and is responsible for posting content onto social media and websites. Originally from Pretoria, she moved to Cape town and is currently studying Digital Marketing through an online course.
Her creativity is sparked by music, poems and books. Sharné has a passion for writing and believes it is one of the best ways to free one’s imagination. She also enjoys singing her own compositions, as well as spending time outdoors.
Eric is a Junior Web Developer in the Lumico team. He is responsible for creating and maintaining clients’ websites. A self-taught web programmer and graphic designer, his focus is on front-end development, ensuring that our clients’ websites navigate easily and look presentable.
Eric is currently a student at UNISA, where he is in his second year of studying for a National Diploma in Information and Communication Technology. Eric’s work is his passion, leading to him spending the bulk of his time learning more about programming languages and familiarising himself with coding. He also enjoys doing graphic illustration.
Born and raised in Cape Town, Stephen is a Photographer and Videographer at Lumico. He is responsible for creating graphic content of the highest caliber for clients’ social media platforms, websites and marketing campaigns.
Stephen started taking pictures when he was only seven years old and received his first DSLR camera as a gift in 2009. He earned a Diploma in Professional Photography at the Photography Institute in 2016 and is currently studying an advanced six months course in Portrait Photography. He is spurred on by the amount of freedom that photography offers him.
Stephen travels to Thailand once a year to visit family and has played the piano since he was eight years old. He started playing computer games at age 4 and used to play professionally for premiere division teams. He can solve a rubik’s cube in just over a minute and claims to have solved it the first time at age seven.
Billy is a Junior Designer in the Lumico team. He works closely with members of the Design, Content and Web Development teams, creating top-quality images for social media, advertising campaigns and in-house websites.
He holds a NQF5 in Web Design from the University of South Africa and is currently doing his second year in Graphic Design at Cape Town University. Billy also lives out his creative ability as a 2D and 3D animator and has assisted Lumico’s clients in this regard.
Having grown up in the Democratic republic of the Congo, Billy moved to South Africa in 2013 to further his design career and studies. He can always be seen with a smile on his face, since he believes there is no reason not be happy. He enjoys dancing, fine art and is a lover of nature and music.
As a Client Strategy Content Specialist, Lawrence creates content for the first phases of new clients’ digital ecosystems . He creates the content with the clients and also manages various projects related to website creation, working closely with the Development team. His dynamic and engaging way of operating and passion for working with people allows him to effectively execute projects.
Lawrence is studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of South Africa, and
has a great passion for reading and writing. His hobbies include visual art and playing drums.
Hailing from a small town in the Southern Cape called Heidelberg, Nico is Lumico’s Financial Manager. He is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and administration of the Financial Department of the company.
He holds a National Diploma in Marketing, as well as a Bcom Degree in Financial Accounting. With his swift problem solving skills, attention to detail and passion for figures, he constantly excels within his field.
Nico is a very active person and likes to attend the gym at least 5 time a week to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Robert is a Content Writer for Lumico, using his creativity to engage with clients’ needs in unique ways and supplying different outlets with competitive thinking and, consequently, distinctly unique content. He is responsible for content posted on social media, websites, and a multitude of other outlets.
Creativity makes up a great part of Robert’s life, which allows him to be a very out-of-the-box thinker when it comes to his position as Content Writer. He is a seasoned musician, playing guitar and singing solo shows throughout Cape Town when he is not writing for Lumico.
As a Web Developer, Delight assists the Development Team in creating websites and monitoring their functionality to ensure they run efficiently and fluently. She partakes in the back-end development of websites, and also the front-end, lending a hand to the visual aspects and captivating visitors on the websites.
Delight got her Honours Degree in Information Technology from Chinhoyi University of Technology in 2015, and moved to South Africa shortly after.
Delight has a passion for reading and learning, which allows her to keep a fine eye on our various websites’ details and to stay up to date with current developments in the digital sphere.
Lourens is part of the Design Team, working in tandem with other designers in the creation of all multimedia to be used in the publication of social media posts, original website content and marketing campaigns. His designs can also be seen on the plethora of websites that he has helped to enrich.
His talent as a designer was quickly noticed after completing his qualification in Graphics Design and Photography at CTU in Stellenbosch. His passion for music and film is notable in his design work, reflecting an abundance in creativity.
He is also a musician with a love for the guitar.
Lorenzo’s responsibility as Client Coordinator involves keeping track of all of Lumico’s projects on behalf of our clients. His qualification in Hospitality Management ensures that he can build relationships and help clients on various projects.
Lorenzo has a love for the outdoor, particularly enjoying hiking, and also has a passion for rugby.
As Manager of Business Technology, Ruben liaises with our clients and is responsible to ensure workable and sustainable technology solutions for their needs. He also manages communication between Lumico and core clients, ensuring full efficiency between different business sectors and consolidating the flow of business.
Ruben holds a certificate as a Microsoft Certified Software Developer (MCSD) and Microsoft Certified Project Developer (MCPD) from Cape Town University. “I want to create a product that people can utilize daily – that’s how I’m planning on becoming the next Bill Gates,” he says. In his free time he loves having ice-cream, and plays interactive online games.
David Engelbrecht is a former Media24 alumni with more than six years experience in various fields of media. Starting off in the trenches as a journalist, he has worked himself up through various platforms and roles: community paper photojournalist, content producer for Channel24, senior corporate content journalist for Die Burger’s corporate content division, layout artist and editor for various travel and lifestyle supplements. He now joins the Lumico team as the head of corporate content with a great passion for helping clients expand their digital presence and offer them digital solutions to their content.
David will head the division alongside a team of talented project managers and content writers who will help carry this goal out.

As a Content Manager specializing mostly in the digital market, Stephen has various focus points in the company – he is a Copywriter, Content Creator and Social Media Manager. Furthermore, he has the responsibility of creating liaisons with clients and determine the best way to make the content fit their needs. He also has experience as a photographer and often contributes to submitting high-quality photographs to the design team.
Stephen received his qualification for BComm Marketing Management in 2011 from North West University, Potchefstroom, before continuing to receive his BComm Honours in Marketing and Entrepreneurship in 2012. After finishing his studies he decided to make the move to digital media, resulting in his close involvement with mostly digital clients at Lumico.
Stephen’s experience history involves a great deal of freelancing, such as travel writing for various outlets and even travelling to Korea to serve as an English teacher. His passion for writing and street photography is apparent in his work, and can be seen in the Nifty Shutter website, of which he is the co-founder, as well as his personal photography blog, Fever Frames Photography.
Approachable and friendly, Bradley is a tech whizz and Lumico’s resident app developer with a strong grasp of IOS and Android.
Bradley is passionate about mobile apps that are well-built and eye-catching.
In his spare time, Brad is a family man and part-time musician with a Financial Accounting diploma under his belt.
JP is a Designer, responsible for creating, editing and transforming digital content into usable, appealing material to be utilized throughout the company by all other teams. His designs are essential for social media posts, as well as websites maintained by our Web Developers.
JP holds an NQF5 in Design Techniques, and is a certified Adobe associate. His penchant for creativity is not only portrayed in his work for Lumico, but also in his love for art and music.
Luke focuses on the development of mobile apps in the Lumico team. We focus on creating Windows, iOS and Android applications for clients. He also supports our web development team with the building, maintenance and updating of several of digital ecosystems.
Luke is a Microsoft Technology Associate and alumni of Northlink College, where he forged his path that would eventually lead him to Lumico. His advanced problem solving skills allow him to find solutions for our clients needs.
On weekends his life is all all about big motorbikes. He fixes and rides them, and is utterly addicted to speed.
As a Content Creator, Elske creates social media content, digital mailers and Public Relations pieces for the Lumico team. Her creative ability allows for authentic content, keeping our clients’ social media on par with modern trends.
Elske graduated from Stellenbosch University with a BA in Humanities and a BPhil in Document Design and Analysis. She professes to love pugs and has an obsession with cheese. Elske is an aspiring novelist and short story writer.
As Content Coordinator, Dean is responsible for the management of content flow, scheduling of different content genres and the support of the content team on various platforms. He is also regularly involved in the management of real-life live campaigns for Lumico’s clients.
After graduating as top management student at Boston College in Paarl, he joined the Lumico team. In his spare time, he writes and records his own songs and enjoys playing action cricket.
Marian started her Lumico journey searching for an occupation that incorporates one of her many passions, writing.
Inspired by creativity, Marian majored in Drama and Gender Studies at UCT. She enjoys thinking that she is saving the world by the use of her words. The power of words has always intrigued her and with a recently discovered advanced interest in digital media, it seems as if her two loves had a baby and called it Lumico!
Juanita studied Media, Film and Visual studies at the University of Cape Town and graduated in 2004 with a BA degree. Before joining Lumico, she worked as a writer for TV Info Services, a department within Media24 that delivers TV schedules and TV-related content to various publications. She was also a bi-lingual writer for an entertainment magazine, TVPlus, where she got the opportunity to interview local celebrities as well as a host of international talent. Apart from working in the media industry, Juanita also worked as a communications officer for the outsourcing company, WNS.
Adriana is one of our Content Managers, responsible for multiple clients’ social media accounts. She ensures that all pages are updated regularly at even intervals with fresh and engaging content. Adriana manages the steady flow of these updates and ensures that the quality of all content keeps up with the high standards of Lumico.
After growing up in the small town of Robertson, Adriana studied International Studies at Stellenbosch University, and recently completed her MA degree in Political Science. While there, she spent some time as the Online Editor of Die Matie, the campus newspaper, and also served as a tutor for other students. She joined Lumico in April 2016 and became part of the Food and Lifestyle team as a Content Creator. Being surrounded by the winelands her whole life has stood her in good stead, as most of her day revolves around creating social media content for Lumico’s winery clients.
She says that being able to live out her passion for food and wine at Lumico is an absolute pleasure and that she loves learning so much about the media industry.
Noluviwe is one of the original members of the Lumico team. She is responsible for a wide variety of office administration and duties. Sylvia has been with us from the very beginning and has seen many changes take place during her time at Lumico. She is often referred to as the “spirit of Lumico,” and her enthusiasm is contagious.
Danielle leads the charge of our PR department. As Public Relations Manager she makes sure our clients get the publicity and reach they need. Danielle joined Lumico in 2015 after completing her studies in PR at Varsity college and a B-Tech in PR Management at CPUT.
Danielle is a force to be reckoned with, and in the future hopes to see herself spearheading efforts to shape and grow hosts of new companies.
Gustave is a Website Developer in the Lumico team. He focuses on functionality to ensure user-friendliness on all applicable platforms in the digital ecosystem.

Akhona is a Web Developer in the Lumico team. She monitors and maintains our clients’ digital ecosystems. Her focus is on front-end development, ensuring that our clients’ digital ecosystems navigate easily and look presentable.
Akhona graduated from Walter Sisulu University in the Eastern Cape, where she studied Communication Networks.
Linah is responsible for various office administration and duties in our Cape Town office. She is assisting the team with administration and logistical support to ensure efficient production. With a friendly attitude, she also makes sure that our clients are being taken care of when they visit the office.
The essential vibrant energy in the office, Misha studied at Rhodes University with a focus on English and Journalism. She has a background in content creation and has been published in the local greats such as Die Burger, Seventeen Magazine and YourLMG.

Luke joined the Lumico team after completing his degree in English language from UCT. An avid writer, Luke is part of our all-important content team. At Lumico, Luke is responsible for project management, content creation, research and conceptualisation of new brand campaigns.
Always keen to learn, share a joke and lend a helping hand – Luke is a trusted ally in our battle against poor content.
As a Graphic Designer, Anushka takes on the task of designing logos, banners and all other material needed to make our clients’ social appealing. Her designs are used in all forms of media in all of Lumico’s teams; she is thus in close liaison with other teams, which enables the company to work effectively as a cohesive unit.
Anushka’s analytical thinking skill has given her the advantage of detecting and resolving issues as quickly as possible, significantly reducing pressure on other team members.
She earned her stripes in the College of Cape Town in 2011, with a qualification in Art and Design. Since completing her studies she worked as a designer and administrator for multiple companies, gaining experience and honing her skill before joining Lumico. Anushka also has a love for the fine arts and enjoys experimenting with different mediums to express this passion.
As Head of Operations, Keenan is leading the Lumico content creators. His main goal is to ensure that clients’ deadlines and targets are met, and to consolidate communication between the different groups to ensure optimum efficiency.
His history in events has taught him to manage time efficiently, in the physical world as well as the digital. Keenan studied Sports Management through Cape Peninsula University of Technology and graduated with a B-Tech in 2016. As a Muay Thai trainer, Keenan incorporates his leadership experience into his teams and ensures that content is alway high-quality. He is also an aspiring Jedi.
Nzam is our Head of Platform Development, with the responsibility of overseeing all projects in the developmental phase. He leads the members in the Platform Development Team and works closely with some of our biggest clients while keeping the communication routes with project managers open and functional.
After working as a freelancer, Nzam settled down at Lumico as a developer at the end of 2015. He is a certified Microsoft Technology Associate and is always prepared to assist with any matters relating to Platform Development. Nzam is also a poet, which gives him a creative edge and ensures unique, innovative work.
Our resident Japanophile, Darryn studied creative brand communication, specialising in art direction at AAA School of Advertising. Before joining Lumico, Darryn worked extensively in digital at some of the most prestigious local agencies.
He is one of the most experienced members of our design team, overseeing junior interns as concept creator. Somehow both offbeat and direct, Darryn thinks outside the box, consistently producing high quality work. In five years, you can find him in Japan or colonising Mars.
A serial aesthete, Jaco is obsessed with the design, look and feel of the world around him. This translates to his work which is meticulously thought out and executed with style. Before joining Lumico he studied extensively in marketing and graphic design at CPUT.
With a background in management, Jaco is perfectly placed as the head of our design team, ensuring that work is executed with thought and creativity.
Representing both Tukkies and Stellenbosch, Adriaan acquired his BA in Humanities and a subsequent Honours degree in History respectively.
He keeps the Afrikaans content flowing as Digital Content Manager and sees himself owning a record label and recording studio in a coastal town in the Western Cape in the future.
He is also an aspiring Jedi.
Johann joined Lumico in the beginning of 2016 after working predominantly in the hospitality industry. He studied at the Institute for Hospitality Management and Events Management and graduated in 2008.
Johann has enjoyed his time managing projects and events and previous work experience includes taking responsibility for Hospitality Operations, Conceptualising new ideas, business development, presenting hospitality services and training including restaurants, wine farms, events, weddings, conferences, family days and more.
He sees himself building sustainable brands by creating the ultimate customer experience. Within 5 years he hopes to be training young minds and contributing to the development of the people of SA. This is something he feel strongly about, making a difference!
Fanie Nel recently matriculated from school in 2014 and was immediately taken in by Lumico to further his passion for Afrikaans content creation and engagement. In his final year of school, Fanie’s appetite for Afrikaans music led him to start his own social media brand, Afrikaanse Musiek Nuus. Here he shares and talks about all things related to the Afrikaans music industry.
After being noticed – rather serendipitously – by Willem, he joined the Lumico team and is now helping us by writing content for the Afrikaans music sites and profiles that we manage.
Monalisa Ntshele joined the Lumico team as a Campaign Coordinator but after excelling in this role by constantly reaching targets and motivating the rest of her team to do the same, she has joined our content team as a Content Creator.
Monalisa is motivated to keep doing what she does best: driving digital marketing campaigns on behalf of our clients. She is a graduate of CPUT and is currently completing her B.Tech in Public Relations. She believes Lumico is providing her with a great foundation to continue learning and excelling. In her spare time, Monalisa is an avid sports fan.
Lindile, as Campaign Manager, is responsible for assisting in the running of marketing campaigns for some of our leading clients, and cooperates closely with the Public Relations team to ensure fluid proceedings. He also undertakes SEO for various forms of content to be certain that our clients are easily reachable in the online world.
Lindile studied Business Computing at Achievers Business College and then Human Resources Management at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. He is currently running a successful Facebook page that keeps readers up to date with soccer news, and this gives him the necessary experience to deliver promising work to clients.
Claudia is a Content Creator at Lumico, responsible for creating original and engaging content. Part of her role includes finding the best route to meet our clients’ needs. Her research and writing expertise are essential in keeping up with the constantly evolving market, necessary to keep our clients’ social media pages both looking and feeling modern and up-to-date.
A native of Kwazulu-Natal, she loves the written word and is a voracious reader. Having lived abroad for a while, Claudia has happily settled in Cape Town.
Liezel is the founder and editor of the lifestyle website, 9lives.co.za. This website won the award for the best beauty blog of South Africa. Together with a team of writers, Liezel covers nine categories: fashion, beauty, design and decor, tech, health, events, food, fun and celebrity news.
Combining aggregated and original content, 9Lives is all about providing readers with stimulating and entertaining information that will benefit their lifestyles. Liezel has worked for some of South Africa’s biggest magazine titles, including Huisgenoot and You, gaining experience in content creation, editorial processes, and management.
Clinton is the Project Manager for food and lifestyle content at Lumico. He was born and raised in Pretoria. He studied fine arts at Pro Arte Alphen Park and continued his studies in interior design at the Tshwane University of Technology.
Before Lumico, he worked as a Retail Brand Manager for an Italian confectionery brand and then furthered his career as a freelance food stylist and food writer for various publications. In his free time he runs his own baking business, specialising in low-carb candy and treats.
Clinton is known for his love of food and art.
After graduating with an Industrial Design degree (where he held subjects like graphic design, art history and photography dear) Daniel moved into the creative sphere and has spent the last fifteen years in the industry. He has held varied positions and worked in different fields, including print and web, architecture and even car design.
Though a natural introvert, Daniel thrives off the company of like-minded people and finds inspiration in the inherent beauty of things, their provenance and authenticity.
Daniel is currently lending his expertise to the Lumico design department, where he works closely with Amy on important projects.
As the Client Relations Manager, Brent creates connections with clients, then continues to manage projects by keeping a close relationship with them and negotiating terms for the projects. He also has the responsibility of coordinating briefs by making sure they are sorted, amended and sent to the appropriate teams. As a Project Manager, he is actively involved in recruiting new business.
Brent’s passion for people is apparent in his daily interactions with clients and the unity he creates when dealing with them. Besides the inherent advantage of this, his social aptitude also binds well with his Marketing and Business Management qualification. In addition to his competitive edge, his love for Digital renders him an efficient manager for our clients’ projects.
Elene was born and raised in Bloemfontein. She finished matric in 2009 and went on to study B.Tech (Clinical Technology) for a year, until finding her passion for languages in 2011 and doing a B.A. in language studies with Afrikaans/Dutch, English and French as majors, at the UFS. Elene specialised in Afrikaans/ Dutch literature during her honours studies, investigating the possibility of a dual language subtitling system in South African cinemas.
Elene is currently busy with her M.A. in film studies, researching the language of violence in films at UCT. Before working at Lumico, I worked on publishing projects at the UFS coordinating two different publications authored by various Afrikaans and Dutch Academics. As is evident from Elene’s studies her love of Afrikaans literature, language and art in all its forms: films, novels, comic books, philosophy and criticism are what she is deeply passionate about!
At Lumico Elene manages the content team, together with Edward Love, but focuses on heading up the Afrikaans side of things. She oversees the creation of content, does quality control and manages the content writers.
As Business Development Manager, Hendrik is responsible for sourcing relevant content for our clients’ online presences under the care of Lumico, and breathe life into them. Negotiating and cooperating with clients – mainly Afrikaans entertainers – makes up a great part of his work.
Hendrik’s personal experience as a recorded artist in the music industry allows him to communicate efficiently with our clients, many of whom are artists. He enjoys performing live himself, writing his own songs; he even released his own music video on Jukebox – KykNet.
Courtney Nicholas is thriving in the arena of Brand Account Management. Her positive energy and sunny demeanour make her ideal for the role, and she’s responsible for maintaining favourable relations with some of Lumico’s biggest clients. She prides herself on delivering diligent work and devotes time to making sure the high standards of Lumico are always being met. Courtney previously worked with Media24 Magazines Digital division as a Digital Channel Manager where she gained tremendous experience in the digital ecosystem.
Her role at Lumico is to manage the operations and also get involved in jump-starting new projects with planning events or marketing.

Edward heads up the editorial team at Lumico and ensures that his writers are consistently delivering innovative and engaging content for clients both local and abroad.
His team is responsible for creating eye-catching social media campaigns that market the client in question and drive traffic to the client’s website or event.
Elsewhere, he works extensively on the social messaging platform WeChat, and is the project manager on a number of high-priority accounts. He and his writers are quickly learning the most effective ways of delivering content-rich experiences that are high in utility too.
Prior to joining Lumico, Edward cut his teeth in copywriting at advertising juggernaut Saatchi & Saatchi and has penned freelance work for publications all over the world. Some of these include 9lives.co.za, eurogamer.net and gearburn.com.
A graduate of UCT, Edward champions the notion that, when it comes to writing, simpler is better.
Daniël Malherbe is a co-founder and director of Lumico. He and Willem Breytenbach head up this innovative, results-driven digital agency.
Prior to founding his own company, Daniël was the Head of Business Innovation at Media24 Magazines Digital where he oversaw the MyEdit aggregation app as Project Owner. Here he had to update the Naspers board on the project and was responsible for driving the content, sales and business teams, ensuring a high level of excellence and timeous delivery.
Previously he worked in the Magazine Markets division, where he was entrusted with the responsibility of managing a relationship with Media24’s key distribution partners. He was also the Head of Digital for the Weekly Magazines division and managed the digital ecosystem of some of South Africa’s leading magazines, like Huisgenoot, You and Drum.
In addition, Daniël has done work for leading international consulting firms, where he has lent his strategic insights and helped pen white-papers. Prior to joining Media24, Daniël wrote for the Cape Times on a freelance basis. In more recent times, Daniël has achieved his master’s in Political Science from the University of Stellenbosch. The paper explores how social media was used in the 2014 South African National Election.
His grasp of business strategy and his dedication to excellence has served him well as co-founder and director of a new company. He relishes the opportunity to explore the digital environment and is proud of overseeing a company committed to breaking ground in a competitive industry.
Matthew Schulz resigned from his previous company in order to start Lumico alongside Willem and Daniël. With all three of them having previously worked together it was an easy decision to leave the safety of a large corporate in order to cut their teeth at creating something that they could call their own.
Matthew is the Head of Business Development and Innovation at Lumico and is responsible for managing the relationships of our biggest clients while ensuring that each team within Lumico delivers amazing work, on time, and to the client’s liking. He is also responsible for acquiring new talent to join the ever-growing Lumico team while ensuring that he matches this by bringing in new accounts to ensure that this growth is possible.
After completing his studies at the University of Cape Town he began working as a Project Manager in the Digital Division of Media24 Magazines, and specifically with the MyEdit App team. Matthew’s entrance into the working world of digital was somewhat serendipitous, so ask about the story as he loves to tell it. Through his work experience he has learnt a lot about digital applications, visual communications, content solutions, online publishing, sales, business development, client relations and creating innovative solutions to fix problems.
Willem Breytenbach is the co-founder and director of Lumico. Lumico is a digital content agency that improves brand communication, creates digital strategies and manages projects from top to bottom. Lumico focuses on building communities, online and off, and thrives on creating engagement with brands. Based in Cape Town and Johannesburg, Lumico works with brands and clients across Africa, in New York, Munich, Perth, Hong Kong and more.
Before starting his own company, Willem headed up the digital division of Media24 Magazines, a Naspers company, and the leading magazine publisher in Africa. He was responsible for digital innovation, circulation, subscriptions and advertising revenue streams within this division. Willem and his team redefined the boundaries of business modelling for cross-platform media through their innovative digital content solutions. His team worked with publishers and media consultants across the United States, Netherlands and Turkey.
Breytenbach has also headed up the Media24 Weekly Magazines division in Southern Africa which published products for South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Angola. Managing these brands meant that Willem attended multiple international magazine events and conferences, such as FIPP, DLD and the Digital Innovation Summit.
Prior to working in magazines, Willem spent three years in New Delhi where he was heading up business development for the Naspers Group in India and the region. He was tasked with mapping the Indian media market, which included television, newspapers, magazines, Internet and mobile-TV verticals. Willem established Naspers’ first office in India and played a role in setting up Ibibo. Ibibo is an e-commerce and social media joint venture between Naspers and Tencent, the Chinese Internet company. During this time he was also involved in the rollout of Naspers’ print and other media ventures in China, Russia, Brazil and Greece.
Willem started his career as a newspaper journalist before becoming the Business Editor and later the News Editor of Die Burger newspaper. This was followed by his appointment as Marketing Director for the Newspaper group of Media24.
Willem has also served as the Chairman of the South African Magazine Publishers Association (MPASA) as well a board member of both the Print and Digital Media South Africa (PDMSA) and the Audit Bureau of Circulations of South Africa (ABC). In 2009 Willem was awarded the prestigious South African Publisher of the Year Award and as a journalist, he was twice awarded the South African Educational News Reporter of the Year Award.
