Ruan grew up, and still resides, in Centurion. His has professional training in sound engineering and digital creative arts. Ruan is a photographer and videographer and enjoys experimenting with these two mediums in his spare time.
He joined the Pretoria team as junior video editor and sees this job as a chance to unlock new opportunities as well as way for him to express himself creatively on a daily basis.
The lively Lojandri joined the Pretoria team as a video editor. She grew up in Klerksdorp, in the North West, where she matriculated in 2013 and went on to study in Bloemfontein at the University of the Free State. In 2016, she received a B.A. in Performing Arts, followed by an honours degree in Film and Visual Media in 2017. Currently, she is busy with a diploma in Interior Design.
Lojandri loves to read, to bake and try her hand at various arts and crafts projects. She loves videography and video editing and is excited about the way in which it challenges her to creatively put together a visual narrative.
Angelique is originally from Stilbay and currently resides in Somerset West. After graduating in 2012 from Bloemhof Girls School in Stellenbosch, she studied BA Humanities and majored in Psychology and English Literature.
Angelique’s hobbies include listening to music and discovering new music, reading books, taking photos and trying out new restaurants. Angelique enjoys working at Lumico as it provides her with the opportunity to learn new skills and explore her interest in photography and videography as well.
Mieke is originally from Strand in the Western Cape, having matriculated in 2013 at Bloemhof Girls School in Stellenbosch. Thereafter, Mieke studied BCom Marketing and Finance at the University of Stellenbosch – graduating in 2017.
In her spare time, Mieke loves spending time with friends, listening to music and painting. When asked what she loves about working at Lumico Stellenbosch, she tells you that she is challenged daily and works in a great environment.
Carmen grew up in Durbanville and moved to Stellenbosch after matriculating at Durbanville High School in 2012. She has been living in Stellenbosch and surrounding areas for the past 5 years.
Carmen studied BA Language and Culture with a double major in Linguistics and Applied English Language Studies. After completing her BA degree, she completed her Honours in Linguistics with a specific focus on Second Language Acquisition, while also working full-time in the hospitality industry throughout her four years of studies.
In her free time, Carmen loves reading and cooking – and watching cooking shows is one of her ultimate favourite past times. At Lumico, Carmen enjoys being creative in a structured environment and doing what she loves daily.
Caré describes herself as a proud ‘Bolander’ having grown up in the Paarl and currently resides in Somerset West. She matriculated in 2013 from Paarl Gymnasium and thereafter went on to study at the North West University. She completed her B.Com in Communication in 2016 and decided to also do her diplomas in graphic design and web design in 2017.
Caré spends her free time reading, painting, cooking or seeing friends. She loves graphic design because she gets to express herself creatively daily and believes that she would have been quite bored if she had to just look at figures every day.
Henco grew up in Tulbagh, where he also matriculated at Tulbagh High School in 2011. Thereafter, Henco moved to Cape Town where he studied Software Development at CPUT, graduating in 2017.
In his free time, Henco likes to try his hand at video games and spending time in Tulbagh, where his parents still reside. Henco joined the Stellenbosch team as web developer as he enjoys solving problems and finding different solutions for the problem at hand.
Buanne, situated in the Pretoria office, is our resident video editor whizz. He hails from the Free State, Welkom to be specific, but grew up in Rustenburg. Buanne matriculated in 2013 and is currently pursueing a degree in theology. Except for video editing, Buanne enjoys building things with his hands, creating something from scratch or restoring old furniture.
When asked why he enjoys video editing, he enthusiastically tells you that he can express himself creatively in the videos that he creates and that it brings him joy to put together videos that evoke emotion – for him, the smiles make it all worth it!
Liezel is the editor of 9Lives.co.za, an award-winning South African lifestyle website that covers beauty, style, food, travel and events. Personal experience and carefully curated content feed the site and social media platforms, offering the community a space that is useful, inspiring and beautiful.
Liezel has worked for some of South Africa’s most popular magazine titles, including Huisgenoot and YOU, which provided experience in content creation, editorial processes, and management.
Elené was born and raised in Bloemfontein. She matriculated in 2009 and went on to study B.Tech (Clinical Technology) for a year, until finding her passion for languages in 2011 and doing a B.A. in language studies with Afrikaans / Dutch, English and French as majors, at the UFS. Elené specialised in Afrikaans / Dutch literature during her honours studies, investigating the possibility of a dual language subtitling system in South African cinemas.
Before working at Lumico, she worked on publishing projects at the UFS coordinating two different publications authored by various Afrikaans and Dutch Academics. As is evident from Elene’s studies her love of Afrikaans literature, language and art in all its forms: films, novels, comic books, philosophy and criticism are what she is deeply passionate about!
At Lumico, Elené develops strategies that helps her clients build their digital ecosystem. As strategist, she specialises in paid advertising and using social platforms to maximise ROI and integrate with analytics platforms to provide transparent feedback.
Daniël Malherbe is a co-founder and director of Lumico. He and Willem Breytenbach head up this innovative, results-driven digital agency.
Prior to founding his own company, Daniël was the Head of Business Innovation at Media24 Magazines Digital where he oversaw the MyEdit aggregation app as Project Owner. Here he had to update the Naspers board on the project and was responsible for driving the content, sales and business teams, ensuring a high level of excellence and timeous delivery.
Previously he worked in the Magazine Markets division, where he was entrusted with the responsibility of managing a relationship with Media24’s key distribution partners. He was also the Head of Digital for the Weekly Magazines division and managed the digital ecosystem of some of South Africa’s leading magazines, like Huisgenoot, You and Drum.
In addition, Daniël has done work for leading international consulting firms, where he has lent his strategic insights and helped pen white-papers. Prior to joining Media24, Daniël wrote for the Cape Times on a freelance basis. In more recent times, Daniël has achieved his master’s in Political Science from the University of Stellenbosch. The paper explores how social media was used in the 2014 South African National Election.
His grasp of business strategy and his dedication to excellence has served him well as co-founder and director of a new company. He relishes the opportunity to explore the digital environment and is proud of overseeing a company committed to breaking ground in a competitive industry.
