Stephen Sillifant

Stephen is a copywriter, content creator and social media manager at Lumico.

He studied BCoom Marketing Management and BCom Honours (Marketing and Entrepreneurship) at North West University, Potchefstroom before making the move to digital media.

Stephen has a passion for writing and street photographer and is the co-founder of a photography website, Nifty Shutter.

Bradley van Nelson

Approachable and friendly, Bradley is a tech whizz and Lumico’s resident app developer with a strong grasp of IOS and Android.

Bradley is passionate about mobile apps that are well-built and eye-catching.

In his spare time, Brad is a family man and part-time musician with a Financial Accounting diploma under his belt.


Our laidback designer JP is rarely without a skateboard at his side. A certified associate of Adobe, he also holds an NQF5 in “Design Techniques.”

JP loves all things creative and is an avid music lover and artist.


Luke is a Microsoft Technology Associate and alumni of Northlink College. He’s interested in the way things work, which makes him the perfect candidate for web developer at Lumico.

Luke helps to build and maintain Lumico’s growing stable of websites and loves taking things apart to find out how they were built.


Elske is an aspiring novelist and short story writer who creates social media content, digital mailers and PR for the Lumico team.

She graduated from Stellenbosch University with a BA in Humanities and a BPhil in Document Design and Analysis. She professes to love pugs and has an obsession with cheese.


Dean is a jack of all trades who helps out on every level at Lumico. A graduate of Boston College in Paarl, Dean spends most of his day assisting Danielle with PR admin. He’s also regularly involved in the management of campaigns and has a can-do attitude that has served him well in the team.

He has a passion for the fast-paced world of digital marketing. In his spare time, he writes and records his own songs and enjoys playing action cricket.


Marian started her Lumico journey searching for an occupation that incorporates one of her many passions, writing.

Inspired by creativity, Marian majored in Drama and Gender Studies at UCT. She enjoys thinking that she is saving the world by the use of her words. The power of words has always intrigued her and with a recently discovered advanced interest in digital media, it seems as if her two loves had a baby and called it Lumico!


Juanita studied Media, Film and Visual studies at the University of Cape Town and graduated in 2004 with a BA degree. Before joining Lumico, she worked as a writer for TV Info Services, a department within Media24 that delivers TV schedules and TV-related content to various publications. She was also a bi-lingual writer for entertainment magazine, tvplus, where she got the opportunity to interview local celebrities as well as a host of international talent. Apart from working in the media industry, Juanita also worked as a communications officer for outsourcing company, WNS.


After growing up in the small town of Robertson, Adriana studied International Studies at Stellenbosch University, and recently completed her MA degree in Political Science. While there, she spent some time as the Online Editor of Die Matie, the campus newspaper. She joined Lumico in April 2016, and became part of the Food and Lifestyle team as a content creator. Being surrounded by the winelands her whole life has stood her in good stead, as most of her day revolves around creating social media content for Lumico’s winery clients.

Adriana tends to work in the background, while quietly doing her thing. She says that being able to live out her passion for food and wine at Lunico is an absolute pleasure, and that she loves learning so much about the media industry.


Noluviwe, known affectively as Sylvia, is an integral member of the Lumico team and is responsible for a wide variety of office administration and duties. Sylvia has been with us from the very beginning and has seen many changes take place during her time at Lumico, although her enthusiasm and work-ethic is ever present.


Danielle leads the charge of our PR department. As Public Relations Manager she makes sure our clients get the publicity and reach they need. Danielle joined Lumico in 2015 after completing her studies in PR at Varsity college and a B-Tech in PR Management at CPUT.

Danielle is a force to be reckoned with, and in the future hopes to see herself spearheading efforts to shape and grow hosts of new companies.


Gustave is one of the stalwarts of our development team. Hailing from the Democratic Republic of Congo, he left the business world to study Computer Systems at Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

As a front and backend WordPress developer, and a devout member of the church. Gustave is diligent, extremely hard-working, and can solve any problem he encounters, placing him well on track to achieve his goal of senior developer in five years.


Akhona went to Walter Sisulu University where she studied Communication Networks (IT). She graduated in 2013 and is currently cutting her teeth in the website development world at Lumico.

She has grown from strength to strength and is now a trusted cog in the Lumico machine. Akhona has designs on becoming one of the best front-end developers in S.A. within 5 years.


Linah is an integral member of the Lumico team and is responsible for a wide variety of office administration and duties. Always smiling and eager to help wherever needed – Linah plays a pivotal role in assisting the rest of the team through her tireless work ethic and support.


The essential vibrant energy in the office, Misha studied at Rhodes University with a focus on English and Journalism. She has a background in content creation and has been published in the local greats such as Die Burger, Seventeen Magazine and YourLMG.

Save a spot on your bookshelf, she plans to become an accomplished author well on her way to publishing her second novel in the next five years.


Luke joined the Lumico team after completing his degree in English language from UCT. An avid writer, Luke is part of our all-important content team. At Lumico, Luke is responsible for project management, content creation, research and conceptualisation of new brand campaigns.

Always keen to learn, share a joke and lend a helping hand – Luke is a trusted ally in our battle against poor content.


Anushka is a creative through and through. Before she joined our team she studied at the College of Cape Town, earning her stripes in Art and Design. Since completing her studies she worked as a designer and administrator for multiple companies.

A graphic designer at Lumico, she has honed her skills, preparing her for a future in which she owns her own successful design company.


Keenan studied Sports Management through CPUT and graduated with a B-Tech in 2016. Keenan, also a Muay Thai trainer, accepts nothing but peak performance from his team, and as project manager, ensures some of our biggest accounts are taken care of.

Coming from a background in events, Keenan knows how to manage time and deadlines, and has proved a huge asset to the team. He hopes to continue to invest in his future in digital over the next few years and continue producing good work.

He is also an aspiring Jedi.

Team Leader: Development

Nzam joined our team as a developer at the end of 2015. Since then he has made himself indispensable. He is a certified Microsoft Technology Associate and is always prepared to assist with any IT related matter.

After working as a freelancer for many years, Nzam, settled down at Lumico and in the future he hopes to further his studies with a Bachelor of Science. Nzam is also a poet, and this unique world view means his web designs are always creative and always excellent.


Our resident Japanophile, Darryn studied creative brand communication, specialising in art direction at AAA School of Advertising. Before joining Lumico, Darryn worked extensively in digital at some of the most prestigious local agencies.

He is one of the most experienced members of our design team, overseeing junior interns as concept creator. Somehow both offbeat and direct, Darryn thinks outside the box, consistently producing high quality work. In five years, you can find him in Japan or colonising Mars.


A serial aesthete, Jaco is obsessed with the design, look and feel of the world around him. This translates to his work which is meticulously thought out and executed with style. Before joining Lumico he studied extensively in marketing and graphic design at CPUT.

With a background in management, Jaco is perfectly placed as the head of our design team, ensuring that work is executed with thought and creativity.


Representing both Tukkies and Stellenbosch, Adriaan acquired his BA in Humanities and a subsequent Honours degree in History respectively.

He keeps the Afrikaans content flowing as Digital Content Manager and sees himself owning a record label and recording studio in a coastal town in the Western Cape in the future.

He is also an aspiring Jedi.


Johann joined Lumico in the beginning of 2016 after working predominantly in the hospitality industry. He studied at the Institute for Hospitality Management and Events Management and graduated in 2008.

Johann has enjoyed his time managing projects and events and previous work experience includes taking responsibility for Hospitality Operations, Conceptualising new ideas, business development, presenting hospitality services and training including restaurants, wine farms, events, weddings, conferences, family days and more.

He sees himself building sustainable brands by creating the ultimate customer experience. Within 5 years he hopes to be training young minds and contributing to the development of the people of SA. This is something he feel strongly about, making a difference!


Fanie Nel recently matriculated from school in 2014 and was immediately taken in by Lumico to further his passion for Afrikaans content creation and engagement. In his final year of school, Fanie’s appetite for Afrikaans music led him to start his own social media brand, Afrikaanse Musiek Nuus. Here he shares and talks about all things related to the Afrikaans music industry.

After being noticed – rather serendipitously – by Willem, he joined the Lumico team and is now helping us by writing content for the Afrikaans music sites and profiles that we manage.


Monalisa Ntshele joined the Lumico team as a Campaign Coordinator but after excelling in this role by constantly reaching targets and motivating the rest of her team to do the same, she has joined our content team as a Content Creator.

Monalisa is motivated to keep doing what she does best: driving digital marketing campaigns on behalf of our clients. She is a graduate of CPUT and is currently completing her B.Tech in Public Relations. She believes Lumico is providing her with a great foundation to continue learning and excelling. In her spare time, Monalisa is an avid sports fan.


Lindile joined Lumico to assist in the running of a marketing campaign for one of our leading clients. With an appetite for hard work, Lindile has progressed into the role of Campaign Manager and is now project leader for the entire campaign.

Lindile studied Business Computing at Achievers Business College and then Human Resources Management at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, with his interests lying in the field of HR and operational management. Lindile previously worked at CCK Labour and Transport Services as a junior HR Manager where he was responsible for all HR-related duties, such as recruitment and selection, disciplinary procedures, staff management, and more.

Known as Excy for his dedication to excellence, we’re looking forward to him growing further with the Lumico team!


Claudia is a valued Content Creator at Lumico and uses her research and writing skills to drive awesome content for our clients. Claudia is adept at writing, research and social engagement, and knows how to use a suite of tools to get the job done. Deadline-driven and always hard at work, Claudia is an exceptional asset to the Lumico team.

A native of Kwazulu-Natal, she loves the written word and is a voracious reader. Having lived abroad for a while, Claudia has happily settled in the Cape – and we’re happy to have her.


Liezel is part of the editorial team at Lumico and is responsible for the creation and quality control of copy on several Lumico projects. This includes sourcing interesting, relevant content, managing social media posts and engagement and assisting in project management.

She is also the creator and editor of lifestyle website, 9lives.co.za. Together with a team of writers, she covers 9 categories: fashion, beauty, design and decor, tech, health, events, food, fun and celebrity news. Combining aggregated and original content, 9Lives is all about providing readers with stimulating and entertaining information that will benefit their lifestyles. She has worked for some of South Africa’s biggest magazine titles, gaining experience in content creation, editorial processes and management.


Clinton is the Project Manager for food and lifestyle content at Lumico. He was born and raised in Pretoria. He studied fine arts at Pro Arte Alphen Park and continued his studies in interior design at the Tshwane University of Technology.

Before Lumico, he worked as a Retail Brand Manager for an Italian confectionery brand and then furthered his career as a freelance food stylist and food writer for various publications. In his free time he runs his own baking business, specialising in low-carb candy and treats.

Clinton is known for his love of food and art.


After graduating with an Industrial Design degree (where he held subjects like graphic design, art history and photography dear) Daniel moved into the creative sphere and has spent the last fifteen years in the industry. He has held varied positions and worked in different fields, including print and web, architecture and even car design.

Though a natural introvert, Daniel thrives off the company of like-minded people and finds inspiration in the inherent beauty of things, their provenance and authenticity.

Daniel is currently lending his expertise to the Lumico design department, where he works closely with Amy on important projects.


Brent has a passion for people and deals with clients every day. When he’s not on the road looking for new business opportunities he’s managing existing relationships and preparing client proposals. A Marketing and Business Management graduate, Brent has a passion for digital, and his competitive edge serves him well in his current field.

In recent times Brent he migrated into the the role of project management. As a project manager he is actively involved in recruiting new business while maintaining that the high-standards expected of our project managers are kept.


Elene was born and raised in Bloemfontein. She finished matric in 2009 and went on to study B.Tech (Clinical Technology) for a year, until finding her passion for languages in 2011 and doing a B.A. in language studies with Afrikaans/Dutch, English and French as majors, at the UFS. Elene specialised in Afrikaans/ Dutch literature during her honours studies, investigating the possibility of a dual language subtitling system in South African cinemas.

Elene is currently busy with her M.A. in film studies, researching the language of violence in films at UCT. Before working at Lumico, I worked on publishing projects at the UFS coordinating two different publications authored by various Afrikaans and Dutch Academics. As is evident from Elene’s studies her love of Afrikaans literature, language and art in all its forms: films, novels, comic books, philosophy and criticism are what she is deeply passionate about!

At Lumico Elene manages the content team, together with Edward Love, but focuses on heading up the Afrikaans side of things. She oversees the creation of content, does quality control and manages the content writers.


Hendrik was born and raised in Kathu – in the heart of the Kalahari – and after school he studied Information Technology in Potchefstroom. He joined Lumico as a Project Manager and works on the digital ecosystems of several Afrikaans-language celebrities.

He strives to deliver only the best results and to ensure that everything runs smoothly. A hard worker, Hendrik does whatever it takes to deliver his very best without complaint. As an artist himself, he knows and understands this industry very well.

In his spare time, Hendrik enjoys spending time with his family and friends and the people closest to him. He enjoys having a good laugh and strives to be the friendliest person you’ll ever meet.

Hendrik performs in live shows – to promote his first recorded album – with 10 original tracks and enjoys writing his own songs. He also released his first music video which was self-directed and is titled “Solank jy myne bly”. You can find this on Jukebox – kykNET, as he appeared as a guest in studio.


Courtney Nicholas is thriving in the arena of Brand Account Management. Her positive energy and sunny demeanour make her ideal for the role, and she’s responsible for maintaining favourable relations with some of Lumico’s biggest clients. She prides herself on delivering diligent work and devotes time to making sure the high standards of Lumico are always being met. Courtney previously worked with Media24 Magazines Digital division as a Digital Channel Manager where she gained tremendous experience in the digital ecosystem.

Her role at Lumico is to manage the operations and also get involved in jump starting new projects with planning events or marketing.

Edward heads up the editorial team at Lumico and ensures that his writers are consistently delivering innovative and engaging content for clients both local and abroad.

His team is responsible for creating eye-catching social media campaigns that market the client in question and drive traffic to the client’s website or event.

Elsewhere, he works extensively on the social messaging platform WeChat, and is the project manager on a number of high-priority accounts. He and his writers are quickly learning the most effective ways of delivering content-rich experiences that are high in utility too.

Prior to joining Lumico, Edward cut his teeth in copywriting at advertising juggernaut Saatchi & Saatchi and has penned freelance work for publications all over the world. Some of these include 9lives.co.za, eurogamer.net and gearburn.com.

A graduate of UCT, Edward champions the notion that, when it comes to writing, simpler is better.


Daniël Malherbe is a co-founder and director of Lumico. He and Willem Breytenbach head up this innovative, results-driven digital agency.

Prior to founding his own company, Daniël was the Head of Business Innovation at Media24 Magazines Digital where he oversaw the MyEdit aggregation app as Project Owner. Here he had to update the Naspers board on the project and was responsible for driving the content, sales and business teams, ensuring a high level of excellence and timeous delivery.

Previously he worked in the Magazine Markets division, where he was entrusted with the responsibility of managing a relationship with Media24’s key distribution partners. He was also the Head of Digital for the Weekly Magazines division and managed the digital ecosystem of some of South Africa’s leading magazines, like Huisgenoot, You and Drum.

In addition, Daniël has done work for leading international consulting firms, where he has lent his strategic insights and helped pen white-papers. Prior to joining Media24, Daniël wrote for the Cape Times on a freelance basis. In more recent times, Daniël has achieved his master’s in Political Science from the University of Stellenbosch. The paper explores how social media was used in the 2014 South African National Election.

His grasp of business strategy and his dedication to excellence has served him well as co-founder and director of a new company. He relishes the opportunity to explore the digital environment and is proud of overseeing a company committed to breaking ground in a competitive industry.


Matthew Schulz resigned from his previous company in order to start Lumico alongside Willem and Daniël. With all three of them having previously worked together it was an easy decision to leave the safety of a large corporate in order to cut their teeth at creating something that they could call their own.

Matthew is the Head of Business Development and Innovation at Lumico and is responsible for managing the relationships of our biggest clients while ensuring that each team within Lumico delivers amazing work, on time, and to the client’s liking. He is also responsible for acquiring new talent to join the ever-growing Lumico team while ensuring that he matches this by bringing in new accounts to ensure that this growth is possible.

After completing his studies at the University of Cape Town he began working as a Project Manager in the Digital Division of Media24 Magazines, and specifically with the MyEdit App team. Matthew’s entrance into the working world of digital was somewhat serendipitous, so ask about the story as he loves to tell it. Through his work experience he has learnt a lot about digital applications, visual communications, content solutions, online publishing, sales, business development, client relations and creating innovative solutions to fix problems.


Willem Breytenbach is the co-founder and director of Lumico. Lumico is a digital content agency that improves brand communication, creates digital strategies and manages projects from top to bottom. Lumico focuses on building communities, online and off, and thrives on creating engagement with brands. Based in Cape Town and Johannesburg, Lumico works with brands and clients across Africa, in New York, Munich, Perth, Hong Kong and more.

Before starting his own company, Willem headed up the digital division of Media24 Magazines, a Naspers company, and the leading magazine publisher in Africa. He was responsible for digital innovation, circulation, subscriptions and advertising revenue streams within this division. Willem and his team redefined the boundaries of business modeling for cross-platform media through their innovative digital content solutions. His team worked with publishers and media consultants across the United States, Netherlands and Turkey.

Breytenbach has also headed up the Media24 Weekly Magazines division in Southern Africa which published products for South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Angola. Managing these brands meant that Willem attended multiple international magazine events and conferences, such as FIPP, DLD and the Digital Innovation Summit.

Prior to working in magazines, Willem spent three years in New Delhi where he was heading up business development for the Naspers Group in India and the region. He was tasked with mapping the Indian media market, which included television, newspapers, magazines, Internet and mobile-TV verticals. Willem established Naspers’ first office in India and played a role in setting up Ibibo. Ibibo is an e-commerce and social media joint venture between Naspers and Tencent, the Chinese Internet company. During this time he was also involved in the rollout of Naspers’ print and other media ventures in China, Russia, Brazil and Greece.

Willem started his career as a newspaper journalist before becoming the Business Editor and later the News Editor of Die Burger newspaper. This was followed by his appointment as Marketing Director for the Newspaper group of Media24.

Willem has also served as the Chairman of the South African Magazine Publishers Association (MPASA) as well a board member of both the Print and Digital Media South Africa (PDMSA) and the Audit Bureau of Circulations of South Africa (ABC). In 2009 Willem was awarded the prestigious South African Publisher of the Year Award and as a journalist he was twice awarded the South African Educational News Reporter of the Year Award.
